Whale watching in Chañaral de aceituno
Chile is an ideal destination for wildlife watching enthusiasts. Chañaral de aceituno in the small north of Chile is one of the perfect places for whale watching.
The small fishing village of Chañaral de Aceituno is located about 2 hours’ drive from La Serena and is ideal for relaxing, recharging your batteries and enjoying delicious sea food.
The uniqueness of this place is the rich variety of underwater animals, which you can discover on an unforgettable tour.
Small boats take you from the fishing bay to the island of Chañaral. Together with Isla Choros and Isla Damas, the island forms the National Reserve of the Humboldt Penguins. On the way you have the opportunity to observe sea lions, chungungos (marine otters), cormorants and of course Humboldt penguins.
Between November and March, the area is inhabited by up to six different whale species, including the blue whale. Be enchanted by the breathtaking moment when one of the whales jumps out of the waves and its tail fin protrudes from the water.
